BOOK REVIEW: Many Lives, Many Masters

BOOK REVIEW: Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian L. Weiss, M.D.

Many of the books that I curate for my paranormal library are for the purpose of furthering my research in one subject or another. Sometimes these subjects cross and I feel the need to pursue additional books to help round out the knowledge I have on the subject. I am currently researching for a "working theory" I have had for years and I needed to do some research on reincarnation. There are any number of books regarding reincarnation but none that really inspire confidence in the subject matter like Many Lives, Many Masters.

Brian L. Weiss is a well educated medical professional that attended Columbia University, Yale University School of Medicine, and completed an internship at the New York University-Bellevue Medical Center. He completed his MD and did his residency in psychiatry. He spent time in various positions and eventually was appointed Chief of Psychiatry at a large university hospital in Miami, Florida. While his education and professional career alone is incredibly accomplished, he also has many publications in his field.

Weiss begins the book with his professional and scientific stance on science and psychiatry, while interjecting with how he had to adapt his thought process on what he knew about humankind and survival of bodily death. Meeting Catherine and not being able to successfully use conventional methods of therapy to help her, forced him into using hypnotherapy and thus began a journey into amazing discoveries for parapsychology.

While I don't want to share too much of Weiss' hypnosis sessions with Catherine, I will share a few details that really hit me within this book that really helped with my own research. These sessions of hypnosis allowed Catherine to go through many of the lives she had lived before which caused her severe anxiety, social issues, and depression. Catherine at certain points during her hypnosis also had "Masters" speak through her. One such moment stated several things that were of note...

"There are many souls in this dimension. I am not the only one. We must be patient. That is something I never learned either....There are many dimensions... I have been to different planes at different times. Each on is a level of higher consciousness. What plane we go to depends on how far we have progressed... That we must share our knowledge with other people. That we all have abilities far beyond what we use. Some of us find this out sooner than others. That you should check your vices before you come to this point. If you do not, you carry them over with you to another life. ONly we can rid ourselves...of the bad habits that we accumulate when we are in a physical state. The Masters cannot do that for us. If you choose to fight and not rid yourself, then you will carry them over into another life. And only when you decide that you are strong enough to master the external problems, then you will no longer have them in your next life. We also much learn not to just go to those people whose vibrations are the same as ours. It is normal to feel drawn to somebody who is on the same level that you are. But this is wrong. You must also go to those people whose vibrations are wrong...with yours. This is the importance...in helping...these people. We are given intuitive powers we should follow and not resist. Those who resist will meet with danger....People who are in comas are in a state of suspension. They are not ready to cross into the other plane...until they have decided whether they want to cross or not. Only they can decide this. If they feel they have no more learning... in physical state....then they are allowed to cross over. But if they have more learning, then they must come back, even if they do not want to. That is a rest period for them, a time when their mental powers can rest."

This is merely an example of higher learning that was obtained by Weiss during these sessions with Catherine. The information from Catherine's past lives and the ever increasing "psychic abilities" she exhibited (possibly repressed), gave validated insight into the past and even Weiss' past. As time progressed and Catherine's mental health improved drastically through sessions, Weiss also felt that his worldview changed. He relaxed more, felt like he understood life's purpose, and he was opening new channels of information collection he didn't have previously with his skeptical and extremely scientific approach to psychiatry.

In Chapter 13 there is an especially interesting quote from a Master that came to Catherine...

"It is on this plane that some souls are allowed to manifest themselves to the people who are still in physical form. They are allowed to come back...only if they have left some sort of agreement unfulfilled. On this plane intercommunication is allowed. But the other planes...This is where you're allowed to use your psychic abilities and communicate. with people in physical form. There are many ways to do this. Some are allowed the power of sight and can show themselves to the people still in physical form. Others have the power of movement and are allowed to telepathically move objects. You only go to this plan if it is useful for you to go there. If you have left an agreement that has not been fulfilled, you may choose to go here and communicate in some way. But that is all...to which the agreement must be a reason for you to go to this plane. Many people choose to come here because they are allowed to see those who are still in physical form and very close to them. To some people it may be too frightening."

All in all I feel that this book is an excellent and reliable example of a well documented case study of an individual that was given hypnotherapy to encourage mental health healing and as a by-product provided an excellent example of past life regression. It details a significant amount of spiritual "laws" for a lack of better term, that are similar to what we have accumulated over the course of 17 years of paranormal investigation and research. It provides a great resource for anyone studying and researching material that relates to REINCARNATION. Weiss is an excellent author and a valuable professional when it comes to hypnosis, past life regression, parapsychology, and psychiatry. I highly recommend this book.
