BOOK REVIEW: Poltergeist Parallels and Contagion

Image
Poltergeist Parallels and Contagion by Darren W. Ritson The author of The South Shields Poltergeist covers a new discussion of what poltergeist phenomenon is capable of from hands on field investigations. Darren forms the theory that the energy associated can cause a type of "contagion" spreading out from the original case to others linked in some way manifesting activity in other places. There are several forwards and notes in the beginning of the book that add onto the theories and ideas to enrich the reading experience. When I delve into books about the paranormal, I look to find thought provoking and out of the box thinking. One of the excerpts from this book that really pulled me in was the discussion regarding poltergeist phenomena being 'person centred' (the book is written in the UK). The author states how it's pretty firmly acknowledged that all paranormal phenomena has some sort of catalyst, something that precipitates events or experiences. Then goes on...

BOOK REVIEW: Ghosts and Poltergeists by Frank Smyth

Image
As usual I found this used book at my favorite place, Wonder Book and Video.  I don't usually purchase books that are part of a collection but this one had some interesting information on the first page I turned to and I was hooked. Published by Doubleday and Company, Inc and as part of "A New Library of the Supernatural" that is comprised of 20 books on various topics like "Visitors From Outer Space" and "Spirits and Spirit Worlds". Be aware that this book has A LOT OF PICTURES and they are amazing! I especially want to note that the Editorial Consultants are Colin Wilson and Dr. Christopher Evans, which tells me they had an excellent collaborative team to create this particular book.  The chapters of the book are comprised of history, types of apparitions, haunted places, "unhuman" ghosts, legends and folklore, poltergeists, investigating, and explanations. As an avid paranormal reader I will have to say some of the best books regarding the...

BOOK REVIEW: Reaching Beyond The Veil by April Slaughter

Image
"Reaching Beyond the Veil" is the first book I have ever purchased and read by April Slaughter. She recently posted on her social media that she had copies of this book and another "Disconnected From Death" of which she was selling signed. The latter I have not cracked open to read as of yet. I will start as the book starts by mentioning that the forward is written by Troy Taylor, who is probably at the top of my list of go-to authors when it comes to paranormal investigation. Troy gives April a glowing review and now that I have read her book, I wholeheartedly agree.  April has a way of writing that allows you to visualize every story and feel like you were there experiencing things with her. She begins the book by writing an introduction that reads like a disclaimer, "I'm not going to claim that every bump in the night has a supernatural origin. In fact, I believe the majority of them do not. However, when a legitimate phenomenon occurs, I think we should...

BOOK REVIEW: Psychic Intelligence- Tune In and Discover the Power of Your Intuition by Terry & Linda Jamison

Image
I love reading everything I can find on Psychic Mediums and developing abilities. While I haven't blogged about that part of my paranormal journey I will say it straight, I have been developing my abilities for over 12 years. That, readers, is another blog for another day. I picked this book up at Wonder Book and Video like I do with many of my intellectually stimulating finds. It's kismet every time I meet a book friend there. This day was no different, I just found it and immediately clutched it in my hands ready to dive in. Psychic Intelligence: Tune In and Discover the Power of Your Intuition was written by Terry and Linda Jamison. The Twin Psychics have a unique vantage because, well, they are twins. Twins that both have very similar abilities. Their story isn't just about that unique quality, they really went through a lot of shadow to find their light. It always interests me to hear about the catalysts for when a spiritual awakening begins and the development of our ...

BOOK REVIEW: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ghosts and Hauntings by Tom Ogden

Image
The Complete Idiot's Guide To Ghosts and Hauntings by Tom Ogden. Yes I did. I read it, from cover to cover. Right now this book actually looks like it barely survived World War 3, thanks to our Australian Cattle Dog, Max whittling his puppy teeth on the first 30 pages. While we have owned this one the longest it is not my favorite nor is it my "go to" text for paranormal information. However do not be put off by the name it has a lot of great information which touches the surface of what a person should learn about the paranormal to get started. IGGH takes you back to the ghostly apparitions that were mentioned by Homer, Socrates, and Plato; the phantoms of ancient Greek and Roman times. It talks about early and current religious and cultural belief's in ghosts, and how it's changed over time. Urban Legends, folklore, ancient omens, and superstition! From the "cry of the banshee" to amulets and charms that ward off dark spirits. Poltergeists, Mediums,...

BOOK REVIEW: The Resonance Key by Marie D Jones and Larry Flaxman

Image
The Resonance Key by Marie D Jones and Larry Flaxman "Exploring the links between vibration, consciousness, and the zero point grid." "Reality is Mind, state Jones and Flaxman, "and it all happens because we in our consciousness, vibrate in resonance with that which we hope to create."--Foreward "The Resonance Key" by Brad Steiger. This particular book was another of my impulse purchases. I had never read Marie D Jones or Larry Flaxman before but considering the number of books authored by them that was available I knew I had to give at least one a try. Today I own almost all of their books...but this one seems to hold a special place in my MIND! "The new physics will have to account for a "field of consciousness," and it may have to deal with the idea that intelligence and awareness does not required a physical body in the sense we are used to."   --Claude Swanson, The Synchronized Universe This quote which starts the Int...

BOOK REVIEW: Handbook of PSI Discoveries

Image
THE HANDBOOK OF PSI DISCOVERIES By Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder If you know me, you know that any book on the paranormal or psychical research that is for sale, is coming home with me. I don't care if the material inside is outdated and obsolete, I am fascinated by every era of research into the unknown. Like in the case of many of my books I purchased this one at my local used book store, Wonder Book and Video. The copyright on the book says 1974 with a dedication page devoted to Marjorie D. Kern and Ivan T. Sanderson.  The contents of this book read like a how-to much like a lot of books you see regurgitated by many ghost hunters and paranormal investigators in this day and age. The one leg up this book gives is their writing style is clear and concise. There is no dramatic play by play, just facts as they knew them to be at the time. This handbook covers many definitions of psychical research and metaphysical topics with details on how to approach techniques and analysis....

BOOK REVIEW- The Case For Ghosts: An Objective Look at the Paranormal

Image
The Case For Ghosts: An Objective Look at the Paranormal by J. Allan Danelek To quote Mr. Danelek "...this book is not another collection of anecdotal stories that seem to so predominate the bookshelves nowadays, nor is it another "how to" book on ghost hunting......this material is more theoretical in nature; my perspective being that of a curious outsider looking not for another good ghost story, but as one hoping to understand the phenomena of ghosts in a broader context.  In effect, this is not a book about things that happened, but why they might happen and what it all means when they do."  This really explains the authors reason for writing and the summary of the book itself. But am I going to leave it at that? No way! I purchased this book at Borders (oh how I miss you!) on a whim. It was one of those shopping trips when I really wanted a new para-read and this was one that I grabbed. What an AWESOME delight it was! Once finished I emailed Mr. J. Allan Dane...

BOOK REVIEW- The Paranormal: A Scientific Exploration of the Supernatural by Arthur Ellison

Image
The first publication of this tome written by Arthur Ellison is dated 1988 and as such definitely doesn't include the pseudo-scientific equipment or hazy scientific method that many current authors include. It is a clear cut description of experiments, definitions, experiences, and hypothesis. Arthur Ellison could be coined as a pioneer in paranormal (psychical) research, as he was the President and Vice President of the British Society for Psychical Research for several years. The inside cover says it best "Through hypnosis, meditation, and psychic development, the author has over the years probed his subjects' unconscious minds, as well as his own, and has examined many people's experiences with mediums and mystics. Guided by the criterion that facts come first, scientific theory second, Ellison investigates numerous extraordinary occurrences and experiments to see what may be learned from them."* After reading the book I did a little research on Arthur Ellison...
